Alrighty folks, instead of having a case of the Mondays, let's get started on a Stew worthy of the new month!

Comics Done in a Day

The 24-Hour Comic Day (24HCD for short) celebration began and concluded this past weekend. Participants from Albuquerque to Finland logged their hours and worked their craft, staving off sleep and insanity to deliver a comic completed in a day or less. You can check out some of the pictures from various events on the 24HCD blog.

24HCD is the brainchild of comic creators Scott McCloud and Steve Bissette, after a challenge they issued one another. As the number of participants in said challenge grew, so too did its popularity. Now 24HCD is an annual event backed by the folks at ComicPRO. For more info, check out the 24HCD website.

Rewriting the Reboot

Blogger Luke Milton took it upon himself to clean up a few aspects of the DC Relaunch. If you follow the link, you'll find his take on Green Lantern Corps, Batman and Robin, and the infamous Red Hood and the Outlaws. There's other stuff too, if you want to read words without pictures.

#MyBuffyLife

Dark Horse comics and Buffyfest have teamed up to celebrate the release of Buffy: Season Nine with a contest! Here's the deal: record a response to the Buffy: Season Nine trailer on Dark Horse's YouTube page. It can be anything (an ad, a trailer, a vlog, etc.) so long as it's related to Buffy. The winner of the competition (i.e., the one with the most "engaging" video) gets a boatload of Buffy swag.

More information about the competition can be found on Dark Horse's blog.

O'Malley's Third is Seconds

Bryan Lee O'Malley, creator of Scott Pilgrim and Lost at Sea, announced in July that his next graphic novel will be coming out in 2013. The book is called Seconds, and will be published through Random House's Villard imprint. This is old news, sure, but news that's not really making the rounds.

Publishers Weekly's article on O'Malley's next piece sheds some light on the creator's works, both past and future.

99 Problems and the [Comics] Ain't One

Naif Al-Mutawa, a psychologist from Kuwait, presented a new superhero series to the New York Film Festival yesterday. Mutawa's The 99 tells the story of ninety-nine young people from across the globe discovering that they have been blessed with uncanny abilities. The basis for the story and the powers comes from the ninety-nine attributes of Allah, as mentioned in the Qu'ran. In an article on Bloomberg's Business Week, Mutawa explains that the goal for this series is to replace the preconceptions of Islam in this post-9/11 world.

Discovery Channel has opted for the rights to The 99 for broadcast in America, Cartoon Network for Asia, and MBC in the Middle East. Check out the video below for more info.

I took part in 24 Hour Comics Day a few years ago. It was quite an endurance test but very fun. Just wish I could draw better...
