Broken Frontier

Yesterday, Top Cow released the teaser image on your right, labeled ‘Deliver us from Evil’. It features key Artifacts character Tom Judge and is drawn by soon to be ex-Witchblade artist Stjepan Sejic. The teaser is for a new book written by Sejic Witchblade partner in crime and Top Cow Universe architect, Ron Marz.

While you’ll have to drop by the Top Cow panel next week at San Diego Comic-Con to get the full details on the book, Ron Marz lifts the veil a wee bit for Broken Frontier. Although Marz declined to comment whether the series will be a direct spinoff from Artifacts – the Top Cow universe-spanning maxi-series that Marz is writing and sets up a new status quo for much of the publisher’s characters – he did say there’s much more going on than what you’re seeing:

"From the teaser image, people might think they know what this book is about. But we're only teasing one aspect here. This project has more scope than people are expecting."

And Marz is thrilled that Sejic is along for the ride. After all, the two have been working together regularly since early 2008, when Sejic became the regular artist on Witchblade. The duo’s run will come to a close with September’s issue #150.

"When you find an artist you click with, you keep working together as long as possible,” the writer says. “Stjepan and I have a partnership that really works, so we intended to keep it together. I have a pretty good understanding of the type of stuff Stjepan wants to draw, and he has a real good idea of what I'm looking for on a page. When something works, you stick with it."
