Director Irvin Kershner, best known for his work on the finest Star Wars film ever made, The Empire Strikes Back, originally released in 1980, has died at the age of 87 in Los Angeles.
Read the full article on the New York Times website. Also, John Booth of Wired’s Geek Dad blog wrote a heartfelt memoriam on Kershner’s death.

Closer to home, Tony Pacitti, author of the wonderful memoir, My Best Friend is a Wookiee: One Boy’s Journey to Find His Place in the Galaxy, has blogged about Kershner’s death. For everyone who has not read Pacitti’s book, The Empire Strikes Back was his first introduction into the Star Wars universe, and still remains his favorite film to this day.
Kershner's work in film will survive him always.
