It was reported this week that DC's Vertigo imprint plans to release a number of titles that were heretofore deemed to controversial for publication, beginning with the long lost issue by Warren Ellis that dealt with school shootings. "Shoot", a one-shot that Ellis wrote in the wake of a number of school shootings that year was shelved by DC after the Columbine massacre drew so much attention to the issue. The story goes that Paul Levitz felt the material was too insensitive to release in the wake of Columbine and informed editorial that the book would never be released at DC. When asked to edit the story Ellis decided instead to leave the title entirely.

Now Vertigo, in a line they've dubbed Vertigo Resurrected, is going to publish Ellis's original script as well as a number of other shelved stories by the likes of Grant Morrison, Brian Azzarello, etc.

My question for you is this: Are you interested in reading these stories that were at once deemed too controversial for publication? Is your curiosity piqued enough to give these a shot or does it strike you as sort of "too little, too late?" Does it bother you that DC is only willing now, long after the smoke has cleared, to release these stories when indeed it seems much safer for them to do so?

Hoping they'll publish Rik Veitch's unpublushed issue from Swamp Thing.

While part of me definitely wants to see what constituted "forbidden" stories within the DC archives, it is somewhat off-putting that once new management was brought in to DC, the stories will finally see the light of day. I'd like to know about the stories themselves, i.e. did Karen Berger and the writers push for these or was this some idea hatched from above to generate publicity.

I'm rather hoping for a FLEX MENTALLO trade myself.
