I came across these beautiful Pauline Bayes covers for Tolkien's Lord of the Rings on Pyre.com. Her illustrations have that beautiful otherworldly rural magic that England exuberates on a slightly sunny day.
Apparently Pauline Diana Baynes was en English book illustrator who illustrated over 100 books including such notables as C.S. Lewis and Tolkien. There's more information over at her Wikipedia.
