As someone who has been a comic book fan for over 20 years, and worked in the industry on the sales level this sort of commentary was informed, illuminating, and overdue. Kudos to Checker for doing what they feel is best. Diamond as a company, and the comic book industry as a whole, should be making sure that their long term views and information is as concrete and well thought out as Checkers. I know several retailers that I work with who will find this letter informative and disturbing, not on the level that they can't order from Checker anymore through Diamond, but on a level that Diamond's house is sitting on the shoulders of one man who is standing in a quicksand.
