Leading up to the December release of “Aeon Flux,” starring Charlize Theron, Aeon will first find her way to the pages of Dark Horse Comics. Comic book readers eager to see the first images from this upcoming series will get their chance at Comic-Con when Dark Horse will provide a sneak peek. Peter Chung, creator of the MTV animated series, will greet fans and sign at Dark Horse on Saturday, July 16th, prior to the “Aeon Flux” panel in Hall H. “Aeon Flux” is a Paramount Pictures/Lakeshore Entertainment presentation of a Valhalla Motion Pictures and MTV Films production.
This four-issue comic series will lay the foundation for events in the feature film, with all of the fast-paced action and intriguing conceptual sci-fi of the original MTV animated series.
In this futuristic sci-fi thriller set 400 years in the future, Charlize Theron stars as Aeon Flux, the top underground operative at war with the totalitarian regime governing what appears to be a perfect society. But is this perfect life hiding a perfect lie? Aeon is on the front lines of a rebellion that will reveal a world of secrets. A startling vision of a future in flux from Karyn Kusama, director of the acclaimed “Girlfight,” “Aeon Flux” is written by Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi, based upon characters created by Peter Chung in the pioneering MTV animated series.
The comic book, which will explore the events leading up to the plot of the motion picture, will feature the artwork of Timothy Green II, who is quickly gaining name recognition as one of the most promising artists in the genre. The book is written by Mike Kennedy, who previously wrote the “Lone Wolf 2100” series for Dark Horse Comics.
“Aeon Flux is one of the most dynamic action heroes out there, and the futuristic world she inhabits is a playground of bizarre and fascinating adventures just waiting to be told,” commented Kennedy. “From her first appearance in Peter Chung’s brilliant animated shorts to her upcoming incarnation in Paramount’s live action feature film, she has become one of the most intriguing characters to ever kick flip her way out of trouble.”
Kennedy continued, “The twisted conspiracies and agendas that were so signature to the cartoon are given some meaty and satisfying continuity in the film, and this book will help bridge the two with an adventure that reintroduces Aeon to fans and newcomers alike. I became an instant fan of the character when she first appeared on ‘Liquid Television’ and I’m excited about her return. It was so imaginative and unconventional – way ahead of its time. Now, at last, her time has come.”
Issue #1 of Aeon Flux arrives on sale August 24 with a retail price of $2.99.
Paramount Pictures and Lakeshore Entertainment present a Valhalla Motion Pictures and MTV Films Production, “Aeon Flux.” Directed by Karyn Kusama and written by Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi based upon characters created by Peter Chung, the film is produced by Gale Anne Hurd, David Gale, Gary Lucchesi, and Greg Goodman.
