The Riverdale Gang returned from the New York City-Con and the message from the fans was clear. The future of comics industry lies with new younger readers and female readers.

“…book-format (comics) have been enormously helpful to the industry for their ability to make the connection between children who read Archie comics that their parents bought for them and adults who go out to buy their own comics.” DC Comics Publisher, Paul Levitz

Over 30,000 attended the convention and as the convention floor filled to capacity the Fire Marshal had the promoters limit attendance.

“We had a lot of people stop by the Archie booth which was great. On Sunday, Carlos Antunes and I walked around the con and gave out over 3500 comics books to fans. That's not even counting the comics that were given out at the Archie Booth. There hasn't been a show of this scale in NYC for at least 11 years, and it was easy to see that the fans were hungry for one.” Archie Editor, Nelson Rebeiro

Manga was the word of the day at the New York City-Con, the subject of panel discussions and its influence was seen as a major part of the growth of the comic market.

“…a lot of people showed up and I saw a much more diverse crowd than usual, it wasn't filled with your typical super-hero fan.  I saw a lot of young female fans, cosplayers, and even more kids than usual. All the panels I was on had good attendance and I met a lot of interesting people.” Archie Manga Artist, Tania del Rio

Archie Comics was well received at the convention with participation at the State of the Industry panel and the Archie Comics panel. Michael Silberkleit, Victor Gorelick, Nelson Ribeiro, Mike Pellerito, Tania del Rio, Fernando Ruiz, Dan Parent and Andrew Pepoy were all well received. Fans were excited to see art from Andrew Pepoy’s new Katy Keene feature.
