Aspen MLT, Inc. is eagerly anticipating the upcoming Free Comic Book Day on May 6th and the release of their contribution to the event, Worlds of Aspen #1. The fifth annual celebration of original American comic books, Free Comic Book Day has become a key event in the promotion of the art form in North America and beyond. Aspen is proud to be involved in such an important program for the comic industry and is looking to bring all of the studio’s most popular properties to the table.
Worlds of Aspen #1: Free Comic Book Day Edition 2006 will feature art and stories from all three of Aspen MLT’s current running properties: Soulfire, Fathom, and Shrugged. As an added bonus, this 32-page color compilation will feature the world premiere of the all-new Soulfire mini-series Chaos Reign, set for release this summer.
“It’s exciting to be involved with such a worthy cause, and I couldn’t be happier giving fans a glimpse of our newest series on Free Comic Book Day,” notes Aspen MLT Inc. Founder and President Michael Turner, “this book is also a great representation of all of Aspen’s universes in one compilation!”
Free Comic Book Day kicks off on May 6th, as participating comic retailers across North America will be giving away comics free of charge to commemorate the event. With a considerable number of sponsors contributing on FCBD, retailers will have a multitude of comics to offer their customers. Mike Banks, owner of the Samurai Comics retail stores in Phoenix, Arizona displayed his encouragement for the event and Worlds of Aspen #1:
“One of the Free Comic Book Day comics that we are most excited about is Worlds of Aspen #1. With the great storytelling and jaw dropping artwork that Aspen is known for, this book will be one of our best opportunities to not only introduce the general public into comic books, but to keep them coming back for more.”
Aspen is excited to be able to offer their fans a compilation book with such a variety of differing stories. Highlighting the release of Worlds of Aspen #1 is the world premiere of the new Soulfire mini-series Chaos Reign. The series hits stores this summer, but Aspen is eager to offer up a sampling of their newest title of primal magic and adventure on May 6th. Experienced Soulfire writer J.T. Krul (Soulfire, Fathom) offered up his knowledge of the Soulfire universe to create a distinct tale exploring the origins of magic and pure evil, while artist Marcus To (Fathom: Cannon Hawke) lets loose to create a brutal world where bloodshed is not a choice, but a means for survival.
Along with the premiere of Soulfire: Chaos Reign, Aspen will be including samplings of Fathom: Volume 2 written by J.T. Krul with art by Koi Turnbull, Jonathan Glapion, and Paul Mounts, in addition to the preview issue of the all-new Aspen series Shrugged written by Michael Turner and Frank Mastromauro, with art by Micah Gunnell, Jason Gorder, Don Ho, and Beth Sotelo. Capping off Worlds of Aspen #1 will be a Soulfire offering written by Michael Turner and J.T. Krul with art by Michael Turner and Peter Steigerwald. Aspen’s Free Comic Book Day offering Worlds of Aspen #1 is 32-pages, full color. To satisfy the demand for Worlds of Aspen (FEB060024), there are copies still available to retailers for reorder up until the book’s release on Free Comic Book Day.
