Atomika creator Sal Abbinanti will be one of the dozens of artists and creators featured in the Sixth Annual Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) Art Festival expected to draw thousands of artists, creators, collectors, dealers, publishers, agents and others to downtown Manhattan this June.
Additionally, fans of Atomika who attend MOCCA will have the exclusive first look and chance to purchase the long awaited Atomika #8 - featuring a cover by the world-renowned Claudio Castellini - which will be available only at MOCCA. This will be the only way for fans to pick up a copy of Atomika #8 prior to its solicitation in the fall.
The 2007 MoCCA Art Festival - which offers fans, professionals and the general public an ideal opportunity to view and purchase published and original works from a wide range of comic and cartoon artists - will be held in lower Manhattan's historic Puck Building (293 Lafayette Street) on June 23rd & 24th from 11:00am to 6:00pm. The event is open to the public. Admission to the MoCCA Art Festival is $8 per day or $10 for a weekend pass. A weekend pass for MoCCA Members costs only $5. All proceeds going to support the nonprofit Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art.
"The MoCCA Art Festival is an annual celebration of comics and cartooning as an art form that can be as vibrant and varied as any other," says MoCCA Executive Director Matt Murray. "Whether you already love comics and cartoon art or are want to learn a bit more, the MoCCA Art Festival is a great place to see and support artists like Sal Abbinanti."
Other artists scheduled to participate in this year's MoCCA Art Festival include Alison Bechdel (Fun Home), Jessica Abel (La Perdida), Jeffrey Brown (Every Girl is the End of the World For Me), Kim Deitch (Alias the Cat), Austin Grossman (Soon I Will Be Invincible), Bryan Lee O'Malley (Scott Pilgrim), Paul Pope (100%), Raina Telgemeier (The Baby-Sitter's Club), Brian Wood (DMZ, Local), and many more.
The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts education organization dedicated to the preservation, study and display of all forms of comic and cartoon art. The museum promotes greater understanding and appreciation of the artistic, cultural and historical significance of comic and cartoon art through a variety of events, exhibitions, and educational programs. The museum is currently located at 594 Broadway (between Houston and Prince Streets) in New York City. MoCCA exhibits are generally open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays from 12:00-5:00pm. General admission to the museum is $5 but free for MoCCA Members as well as children 12 and under.
