Ape Entertainment is proud to announce the Black Coat will be back for a 2nd series starting next May. The masked colonial-era super-spy and his network of agents made waves in 2006 with critically-acclaimed storytelling by Ben Lichius and Adam Cogan (Villains) and incredible artwork by Francesco Francavilla (Sea of Red, Fear Agent). Filled with action, espionage, and occult horror, the first series ended with a monster of a cliffhanger.
“I think people will be a little surprised at what happens,” said writer and co-creator Ben Lichius. “The Black Coat made a quick, and perhaps rash, decision in order to defeat The Butcher in the last series. Now we get to find out if his gamble pays off or if he’s really just doomed everyone around him. Either way, we’re not done with him yet and neither is The League, so you’ll have to keep reading to find out what happens.”
The first series, including the sold out first issue, has just been collected into a trade paperback and is now in stores. This second series, subtitled “…Or Give Me Death”, promises more of the same kind of swashbuckling, pulp-style entertainment that made the first series such a hit.
”There’s a revolutionary war about to start,” continues Lichius, “so things are just starting to heat up. The stakes were already high, as in ‘life-and-death’ high, but they are going to go even higher.”
To help celebrate the new series, the creators are giving fans a chance to get their face immortalized in the book. One lucky winner will appear as a character in the second series and receive both a signed copy of the “A Call to Arms” trade paperback and a signed copy of the book that they appear in. Four runners-up will receive signed copies of the “A Call to Arms” trade paperback.
“We ran a similar contest for our first series,” Lichius said. “It was a lot of fun and Robin, our first winner, is still a recurring character in the book! I’m pretty excited to see who will win next.”
You can head over to The Black Coat’s website to sign up for your chance to become a part of comic history! The contest ends Friday, February 2nd.
