In honor of Black History Month, comic book publisher Bluewater Productions will offer a special trade paperback called “Black History:Leaders” featuring biographies of leading African-American personalities.

The 96-page anthology includes the unabridged issues featuring Barack Obama, Colin Powell, Oprah Winfrey, and Condoleezza Rice. These biographies were previously published as individual issues of Bluewater’s biographical comic titles Female Force and Political Power.

The trade paperback is scheduled for release in February 2010.

“We live in historic times. African-Americans have reached the highest levels of government and the highest levels of industry,” said Bluewater president Darren Davis. “Our book is simply a testament to their achievements.”

Additionally, the Washington-based publisher announced two other related titles to be released in February: Political Power: Nelson Mandela and Female Force: Michelle Obama, Year One.

The upcoming Michelle Obama issue is the first sequel in the Female Force series. The first issue was published in January 2009.  Obama Year one is written by Robert Schnakenberg and drawn by Tess Fowler.

Political Power: Nelson Mandela is that series’ first feature of a non-American politician.  This issue is written by Clay & Susan Griffith and draw by Pablo Martinena.

“Mandela is a transcendent hero. We are thrilled to present his life story in this format and eager to expand the scope of our biographic subjects beyond our borders,” Davis added.

The two comic book series, launched earlier this year, have drawn considerable media attention, including features on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and “Live with Regis and Kelly.” It has also been featured in such periodicals as People Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, USA Today and thousands of blogs and other media outlets.

The suggested retail price (SRP) for the upcoming trade paperback is $15.99.  The individual issue SRP is $3.99.

Female Force and Political Power individual issues are also available on Amazon.com, where they have been ranked among the site’s top 300 books.
