From Mousekateer to pop princess to tabloid fodder to redemption, the peaks and valleys of the life of Britney Spears are examined in Bluewater Productions’ latest biography comic book release, “Fame: Britney Spears.”
Scheduled for a March 2011 release, the 32-page bio title covers most of the public spectacle a casual reader might expect.—her meteoric rise to superstardom and her harrowing difficulties stemming from her private life. However, the book looks to delve beyond the salacious headlines.
“She is far more complicated than most people realize. No matter what preconceptions you have about her, there will always be more layers and surprises,” said issue author Patrick McCray. “Beyond the performer, there is a real human being there, struggling for a real life, struggling to connect with her art, and struggling to be understood.”
According to publisher Darren G. Davis, Spears’ life reflects the core of what the “Fame” line of biography titles tries to achieve. “She was created in the Internet Age to be put on a pedestal, but no one can stand the glaring lights of celebrity that intensely. The title seeks to find the person within.”
The title, written by McCray, was penciled by Ricardo Jaime who also provided the cover art. The issue will retail for $3.99 and be available through most online venues like Amazon.com as well as local comic book stores.
“The only downside about writing the book was having to stop. This could have easily been a twelve-issue series and never gotten dull,” McCray added.
Bluewater launched the “Fame” series earlier in 2010 as a companion piece to the successful “Female Force” and “Political Power” biography titles. The comic allows Bluewater to delve into the celebrity culture and understand how a person rises to fame, deals with the new-found celebrity and continue to produce in the public eye. That includes actors, sports figures, recording artists and royals; notable personalities that would be precluded from Bluewater’s other politically-oriented biography titles. To date such personalities as Mark Zuckerberg, Robert Pattinson, David Beckham, the cast of Glee, Danica Patrick, Kristin Stewart, Justin Bieber and have been featured.
