Joss Whedon has big plans to bring Buffy back to comics, it was reported by Entertainment Weekly earlier today.
Since the seventh season of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer came to a close in 2003, Whedon has built quite a name for himself in the comic book industry, most notably on Marvel Comics’ Astonishing X-Men series along with artistic sensation John Cassaday. Now, the director/writer will oversee his most famous creation’s return to the realm of comics in a new Dark Horse title. The series will debut in 2007, and will be ongoing, albeit finite, as Whedon sees the project as a sage spanning about 25 to 30 issues.
Whedon stated that the series should be perceived as a TV season—he’s even come to calling it Season 8—since events will pick up right where Buffy Season 7 left off three years ago. While the scribe won’t pen the entire series, he will closely oversee the entire production process and write the first four issues himself while leaving the bulk to other writers.
