Imagine a world equally populated by mystical gurus, urban hipsters, and dark forces bent on tipping our drab, mundane world into shadows. That work is writer/creator Shon C. Bury’s Nox—an original graphic novel hitting shelves this June from upstart comic-book publisher Atomic Pop Art Entertainment. Originally formatted as a five-issue mini series that mapped the mythical Hero Cycle onto a modern world, the book will now be released as one complete graphic novel. “It’s a very self-aware study of the Hero Cylce; a low fantasy generously peppered with Everyman situations and what I like to refer to as comedy,” Shon says.
“It’s been an absolute joy working with the Nox creative team on my first OGN,” Shon says. “Nox was absolutely a product of a lifetime of reading and studying both comics and mythology—and my desire to combine the two. I always envisioned Joey and Bobby’s adventures as one, continues story...so I’m very thankful APA gave me the opportunity to bring my toys over to their very cool sandbox.”
Initially scheduled to be published in 2006, it was decided to remove Nox from the market when small-press newcomer, Narwain, mishandled their entry into the industry. Regardless, Nox garnered repeated critical acclaim throughout the industry and was named Comic Geek Speak’s Indy Challenge Winner in March of that year. Newsarama’s Troy Brownfield claimed Nox was “...an energetic book that turns your typical kid on a quest scenario on its head” while That’s Entertainment gave the book 10 out of 5 stars.

APA kills two birds with one stone by announcing comic-book industry veteran Shon C. Bury as their Publisher and Editorial Director. Effective immediately, Shon will put his over ten-years of comic-book experience to good use in assuming responsibility of APA’s comic-book venture.
“With Shon’s wide range of experience as a comic-book writer, editor, agent, and fan, he hit the ground running in a way that only Shon can hit the ground running,” says APA co-owner Tracy Duty. “I was really impressed with what the APA guys had put together,” says Shon. “It didn’t take long to realize they had something special going on.”
Shon began his comic-book career at the tender age of 22. As a freelance writer for such companies as Marvel, DC, and WildStorm, Shon wrote for both the X-Men and Superman franchises as well as co-created Black Ops with comic legend Jim Lee. Shon went on to become president of production-studio and talent-agency Sequential Studios, quickly turning the small venture into an international success.
Acting in various capacities as editor, consultant, production manager, talent agent, and business manager, Shon brings a unique set of skills to his dual role as both APA’s Publisher and Editorial Director—especially in dealings with creator-owned projects. He’s excited to be wading knee deep into the impressive line-up of books scheduled to release this Summer and encourages everyone to keep an eye out for APA.
