Will the best Cap please stand up? The Hollywood Reporter reports that both Channing Tatum and Keira Knightley have been approached for roles in the upcoming film The First Avenger: Capitan America. Tatum is up for the role of Steve Rodgers, the Army reject that becomes a superhero thanks to a super-soldier serum. Tatum is known for his roles in Step Up, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and most recently Dear John. Knightley is said to be up for the female lead.

Wilson Bethel, Chris Evans, Mike Vogel and even Ryan Philippe have also been recently rumored to be in the mix for the role as Cap well. Steve Rodgers seem to be one of the most sought after roles in the last few years, as a high profile comic book hit would boost all of these actors careers. Hugo Weaving (The Matrix Trilogy) is also reportedly in talks to play the Captain’s nemesis Red Skull, that deal is thought to be nearing completion. The film is set for a July 22, 2011 release date.
