Caption Box moves from the best-kept secret on the independent scene to small press fixture in 2005, with the release of over a half-dozen comic book projects beginning in February.

Nothing is sacred when writer A. David Lewis (Mortal Coils) and artist mpMann (The Trouble with Girls) mix together the epic tale of ancient Egypt with The Lone and Level Sands, available in Diamond Comic Distributors’ February Previews catalogue. Myth, history, and civilizations clash as the story of Moses and Ramses is stripped of mysticism and told as the tale of a royal family at a legendary crossroad. The 160-page, digest-sized graphic novel will arrive in stores in April. Along with February’s offering of The Lone and Level Sands, Caption Box will also re-release its critically acclaimed 2004 hit, the Mortal Coils: Bodylines collected trade paperback. Winner of the Cinescape Literary Genre Award and the 2004 Broken Frontier PSGA for Mystery/Suspense, Bodylines is "surprisingly complex... worth seeking out," says The Comic Buyer’s Guide and “memorable and moving...clever” according to Mark Waid (JLA, Fantastic Four). Featuring a stable of rising artistic talents from all over the world, this is your second chance to enjoy what Wizard: Edge called “shocking and suspenseful...Twilight Zone-like tales," and Comic World News hailed as a “thought-provoking anthology of spooky stories for the intelligent.”

As part of national Free Comic Book Day, Caption Box will serve as a Silver Sponsor by producing its first Bodylines follow-up of all new material, Mortal Coils Presents...Free Bodies. The complementary comic includes the story “Pit Stop (Redux)” with artist Chris Srnka “Godpoint” with Taki Soma and Jeffrey LaJaunie (Ronin Illustrated). With a full-color cover by rising star Chris Moreno (Dracula v. King Arthur), Free Bodies will be available in all FCBD affiliated stores in May.

The second half of 2005 will be just as busy for Caption Box, with several projects already on track. The Bodylines team of Lewis & Argentinean DaveYoukovich will collaborate once again to take part in Angry Dog Press’ 2005 Potlatch Project for the summer convention season. Netherlands artist Edwin Rhemrev will provide the covers along with Brent P. Newhall as editor on the original prose novel God Complex, written by Lewis in 1998 and coming to print for the first time this year. Lastly -- thanks to the support of groups like BrokenFrontier.com and the ICAA -- the Ever-Ending Battle research project on Superheroes & Mortality will be covering East Coast comic book conventions and discussion all year, presenting its first set of data results concerning character death and resurrection in comics at San Diego’s annual Popular Culture Association conference in March.

Caption Box’s new venture with Silent Devil Productions is being kept under wraps until mid-January. Stay tuned to www.SilentDevil.com or subscribe to the Caption Box newsfeed by going to www.CaptionBox.net.
