For the first time ever, Jamie Delano and Goran Sudzuka's ground-breaking series OUTLAW NATION is being collected into a single volume by Desperado Studios and Image Comics.
Originally published by Vertigo from 2000-2002, the 19-issue saga tells the tale of Story Johnson, a 100 year-old semi-deranged amnesiac pulp fiction-writer returning home from 25 years MIA in Vietnam. All Story wants is to recover his missing time and catch up with Johnson Family members. Trouble is, a lot of them have "disappeared," and those that are left have put the blame on him.
Writer Jamie Delano explains, "OUTLAW NATION was my shot at a big, sprawling 'American Adventure Story' played on that classic widescreen theater of extremes, the territory of the imagination represented to me, a non-native outsider, by the North American continent and its culture."
"It is a fast-paced, hard-boiled, black-comic, stoned political thriller; a weird Western; an epic family saga touring the underground mythology of America: it is a 'road-movie' of personal discovery for Story Johnson as he returns home to see if the 'American Spirit' of his bizarre family has maintained in its resistance to the oppression of the 'American Dream.'"
Jamie Delano's career has included long and successful runs on books such as Hellblazer, Animal Man and Shadowman, mini-series such as Batman/Manbat, Hellblazer: Bad Blood, the acclaimed 2020 Visions and many more. Delano enjoyed guiding poor, crazed Story in his odyssey across a U.S.A. in which fact and fiction collide and merge as he re- encounters his bizarre family, and the author very much regrets the abrupt conclusion of his "epic."
"OUTLAW NATION contains some of the best work of my career," says Delano. "Thanks to artists Goran Sudzuka and Goran Parlov, it certainly looks damn good, especially in this black-and-white edition. I hope any new readers who pick it up have will have half as much enjoyment in reading it as I had in its writing."
Many consider OUTLAW NATION a lost treasure of the comic book world.
Rich Johnston of Lying in the Gutters calls it "...the Sandman, the Preacher, the Transmet that the industry forgot. Reserve your copy!"
OUTLAW NATION (SEP061798) is a 456-page black & white trade paperback retailing for $15.99 and is scheduled to be in-stores November 8th, 2006.
