The Broken Frontier Awards for 2011 saw American graphic novelist Craig Thompson’s critically-acclaimed Habibi take the top honours for Best Graphic Novel in a particularly strong field that also included Blank Slate’s Nelson and Luchadoras, Com.x’s Seeds and Top Shelf’s Infinite Kung Fu.
Broken Frontier’s British readership have the opportunity of catching Thompson at signings in London this weekend at Forbidden Planet on the 20th, Gosh! Comics on the 21st and Mega City Comics on the 24th. Most excitingly, however, this highly-regarded creator will be appearing as part of the Comica Festival in a live speaking event at the St. Albans Centre in London on the evening of January 23rd, in association with publishers Faber & Faber. The doors open at 6.45pm for a 7pm start.
The event includes an illustrated talk and presentation about the creation of Habibi as well as an interview conducted by Marcel Theroux of BBC2’s The Review Show looking across Thompson’s career and his work to date. There’s also a planned Q&A session for those who like a little more personal interaction and a book signing afterwards, organised with Gosh! Comics.
To order tickets (priced £8.00) check out the We Got Tickets site here. For more on how to get to the event and travel information check out the Comica site here.
