Legendary artist Dave Cockrum passed away yesterday morning, November 26, due to complications from diabetes. The tragic news was first reported by Clifford Meth, a close friend of Cockrum’s, and the one responsible for The Uncanny Dave Cockrum Tribute, an anthology featuring the work of many comic book industry legends that was put together in early 2005 to help support the artist’s ongoing battle with diabetes.
Cockrum was best-known for his work on Legion of Super-Heroes at DC and Uncanny X-Men at Marvel Comics, as well as redesigning Marvel’s team of mutants for Giant Size X-Men #1.
At this time, there are no details available with regard to the funeral service, except that Cockrum will be cremated according to his wishes. Paty Cockrum has requested that people who want to show their support and condolences, instead of sending flowers, make a contribution to ACTOR/The Hero Initiative, an organisation both she and her late husband very strongly believed in. Those who want to send a personal message to the Cockrum family can do so via the following e-mail address: magnetorampant@yahoo.com.
Broken Frontier would like to offer its most sincere condolences to the Cockrum family, his widow Paty, and their friends.
