Broken Frontier

Marvel Comics has tapped prolific author and veteran comic book writer Peter David to script the first seven issues of the ground-breaking new comic book series adapted from Stephen King’s magnum opus, The Dark Tower.  The first issue is scheduled to debut in February 2007.

The series will expand the saga of King’s epic hero, Roland Deschain, whose quest to save the Dark Tower is captured in seven best-selling novels published over the course of twenty-five years. The new stories delve into the life and times of the young Roland, revealing the trials and conflicts that lead to the burden of destiny he must assume as a man, the last Gunslinger from a world that has moved on. The comics will work in conjunction with the novels, further supplementing and defining the saga’s mythology under the direction of the acclaimed author himself.   

“You have to understand:  To me, it was yesterday that I was standing on line at a Stephen King book signing, telling him that I was an aspiring writer, and he inscribed a copy of ‘Danse Macabre with ‘To Peter:  Best of luck on your writing career.’ Since then I’ve had a great deal of luck, and this opportunity is—by me—one of the luckiest breaks of them all,” says David.  “I’m extremely excited to be a part of such a highly anticipated project, and am looking forward to contributing however much I can to King’s epic fantasy.  I just wish I could go back and tell the kid on the autograph line; he probably wouldn’t believe it.”

The series will be illustrated by Eisner-award winning artist Jae Lee.

Peter David's career as a popular author spans nearly two decades.  He has worked in a variety of entertainment media–television, film, books, short stories and comic books–and has acquired followings in all of them

In the literary field, Peter has had over fifty novels published, including numerous appearances on the New York Times Bestsellers List. His novels include Sir Apropos of Nothing and the sequel The Woad to Wuin, Knight Life, Howling Mad, and the Psi-Man adventure series. He is the co-creator and author of the bestselling Star Trek: New Frontier series for Pocket Books, and has also written such Trek novels as Q-Squared, The Siege, Q-in-Law, Vendetta, I, Q (with John deLancie), A Rock and a Hard Place and Imzadi. He produced the three Babylon 5 Centauri Prime novels, and has also had his short fiction published in such collections as Shock Rock, Shock Rock II, and Otherwere: Stories of Transformation, as well as Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine and The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Peter's comic book resume includes an award-winning twelve-year run on The Incredible Hulk, and many fans consider David's work on The Incredible Hulk to be the definitive interpretation of the character. David’s other Marvel Comics work include runs on Wolverine, the New Universe series Merc and Justice, a run on the original X-Factor, the futuristic series Spider-Man 2099, about a man in the year 2099 who takes up the mantle of Spider-Man (the title character of which David co-created), and the 2000 and 2002 versions of Captain Marvel. He has also written comic book related novels, such as The Incredible Hulk: What Savage Beast, and co-edited The Ultimate Hulk short story collection. Furthermore, his opinion column But I Digress... has been running in The Comic Buyers's Guide for nearly a decade and was also collected into a trade paperback edition.
