The long anticipated collection of the hit Elephantmen series, entitled Wounded Animals, is getting a bit of an unexpected facelift courtesy of Eisner Award-winning Elephantmen cover artist Ladrönn. Ladrönn will be supplying a fully painted wrap-around cover for the hardcover edition. Originally slated as a March release, it was necessary to shift the release date to accommodate Ladrönn’s painstakingly detailed painting process.
"When we started putting together the hardcover," said Richard Starkings, President & First Tiger of Active Images, "we started thinking of ways to enhance the book, give fans a little extra. When the dust settled from our brainstorming sessions, we were left with weighing the option of delaying the book a little with getting Ladrönn to do a full wrap-around cover. It was an easy choice: Ladrönn all the way."
Elephantmen: Wounded Animals (Image Comics, August 2007, Diamond Code: JAN07 1927, ISBN: 978-1582406916, $24.99, 224-page hardcover): They were genetically engineered to be supra-human weapons of mass destruction, but ultimately dismissed collectively as Elephantmen. Hip Flask, Ebony Hide and Obadiah Horn count amongst their number; Wounded Animals who, despite their differences and origins, must live in the world of man. Elephantmen: Wounded Animals collects issues 1 through 7 of the acclaimed series called, "A labour of love, not just for the fictional world within it, but the medium itself." [Adam White , Pulp Fiction Comics]
Elephantmen: Wounded Animals is written by Richard Starkings & Joe Kelly, with art by Moritat, Chris Bachalo, Henry Flint, Tom Scioli, and David Hine.
It’s a year of Ladrönn as it was also recently an Elephantmen: Hip Flask jigsaw puzzle featuring his art will release in August. This thousand-piece puzzle measures 48.5 x 68 cm and retails for $24.99.
