Thanks to it's excellent creative team, original premise, low price point and overwhelmingly positive reviews, both FELL #1 and FELL #2 have sold out at Diamond! FELL, created & written by Warren Ellis and featuring art by Ben Templesmith, debuted in early September to almost universal positive praise.
With high demand for the series, Image Comics is going back to press both of the issues. Each issue will feature the same cover and content, no changes will be made to the printings aside from an indicator in the indicia that the books are Second Printings, which are scheduled to be in stores in early December.
Both fans and retailers are still talking about the book's format - a 24-page book featuring 16 pages of story and several pages of 'back matter' - text stuff, sketches, background material, letters, and more, all for only $1.99.
Says Ellis, "Everyone except Image thought I was crazy for devising the format. The great and the good told me I was stupid for pitching a smaller, denser book for less money. To me, this is a huge vindication, and a justification for Ben Templesmith killing himself to produce his career best. It's my hope now that more people follow us into this format and make it a real alternative for short stories and serialisations. And I hope that the people who gambled some pocket change on FELL got what they wanted, and continue to do so."
To accompany this dense storytelling, there needed to be an artist who could handle the visual experimentation of the format, but also be able to tell a clear and accessible story. That's where Ben Templesmith stepped up to the plate.
"Many many many thanks to all the people who've come out and decided to have a try of a non super hero creator owned book in a new format," said Templesmith. "At first I thought simply working with Warren Ellis was the biggest honour, but selling out of what was even overprinted for #1 and #2 just takes the cake for me. I am, to put it mildly, well chuffed and humbled. Cheers to all who bought it, and of course, especially Warren for letting me be the guy to draw it."
FELL #1 was printed above the standard Image overprint, plus the first issue was overshipped and still sold out, while FELL #2 sold out even quicker despite it's own overprint. Both issues have seen heavy reorder activity.
Orders for FELL 2ND PRINTING #1 (SEP058243) and FELL 2ND PRINTING #2 (SEP058244) are available now, as are advance orders on FELL #3 (SEP051691). Your local retailer can contact their Diamond Customer Service Representative for ordering.
