A mystery writer for over twenty years before hitting gold with her Southern Vampire Mystery novels known as the True Blood series, Charlaine Harris has ascended to the realm of best-selling author. Now this popular author of over 30 books is the featured subject of Bluewater Productions’ Female Force biography comic due in stores June 16th.
Female Force: Charlaine Harris covers the author’s long career, the evolution of the Sookie Stackhouse stories and characters, what she thinks of the HBO series based on her work and how she creates “cozy mysteries with teeth.” This issue showcases the personal obstacles through which Harris has triumphed, making her an ideal role model.
Additionally, according to Bluewater president Darren Davis, this edition of Female Force is unique because of the direct involvement of Harris.
“Charlaine Harris has given her blessing on this issue,” Davis commented. When we embark on one of these projects, we routinely ask if the person wishes to be involved. Typically the answer is no, but Ms. Harris graciously accepted our invitation.”
Writer Kim Sherman interviewed Harris and much of the dialogue made its way onto the Nathaniel Ooten illustrated pages. Additional cover art was drawn by Patricio Carbajal.
According to Davis, the Harris biography is part of the four issue collection titled Female Force: Best Sellers. After its initial release in comic book shops, bookstores and online venues, the issue will be included as part of a graphic novel which include the previously published biographies of popular and influential genre authors: JK Rowling, Stephenie Meyer and Anne Rice (whose bio comic arrives in stores next month).
Female Force offers a broad examination of strong and influential women who are shaping modern history and culture. In past issues, the monthly series has featured Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Margaret Thatcher, Barbara Walters, Sarah Palin and others.
The comic book series, launched earlier this year, has drawn considerable media attention, including features on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, “The View” and “Live with Regis and Kelly.” It has also been featured in such periodicals as People Magazine, OK! Magazine Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, USA Today and thousands of blogs and other media outlets.
Individual issues of Female Force are also available on Amazon.com, where they have been ranked among the site’s top 300 books.
The 32-page issue retails for $3.99 and will be available in comic book shops and several online venues.
