Fans of the hit comic book miniseries DEAL WITH THE DEVIL have often commented that the book’s detective story would make an excellent film.
And now, readers may get their wish as ALIAS Comics announced today that DEAL WITH THE DEVIL is in the stages of being developed into a major motion picture.
DEAL WITH THE DEVIL is the story of Anthony Goodwin, a man who once had it all; family, faith, the respect and adoration of his peers, and the reputation as the best manhunter in FBI history. In his final case, his prey became his hunter, and his career took a turn for the worse as he was critically injured and the suspect vanished without a trace. But four years later, his nemesis returns to ask for his help, and the former detective is forced to make a choice: to help the man stop a dangerous copycat killer or to avenge the wrongs committed in the past.
“I always imagined this story as a film,” said Mike S. Miller, writer and creator of DEAL WITH THE DEVIL, “but I realized that it made more sense to translate the story into the comic book medium since that’s where I have the most experience. Fortunately, it turned out quite well, and the book has developed a loyal fanbase during its run as a black-and-white comic in the back of a magazine and a stand-alone full-color book from ALIAS Comics.”
The film rights to DEAL WITH THE DEVIL have been optioned by independent producer David Tischman, an executive producer on "Damn Nation" through MTV Films. ("Damn Nation," based on the Dark Horse mini-series by Andy Cosby, is a para-military vampire movie.)
"The relationship between detective Anthony Goodwin and serial killer Kevin Runyan is a fantastic twist on the buddy/action film," Tischman said. "I read the first issue and I knew DEAL WITH THE DEVIL had everything it needed to be a great movie."
“I couldn't be happier with the direction David is taking DEAL WITH THE DEVIL,” said Miller. “It’s such a thrill to have a producer take the time and energy to turn your comic book into a movie treatment, and I can’t wait to see it move through the various stages of development needed to get to the final cut.”
ALIAS Comics also announced that the trade paperback edition of the entire story of DEAL WITH THE DEVIL will be available later this fall at the retail price of 14.99. The new edition will feature all five issues of the story, as well as a new never-before-seen six-page prologue drawn by series artist Sherwin Schwartzrock.
”Because of the hectic summer, many readers missed the chance to catch the entire story,” said Sean J. Jordan, Managing Editor for ALIAS Comics. “Here’s their chance to find out what happens at the end. I won’t spoil it, of course, but it’s an incredible twist that’s going to have people talking.”
The graphic novel edition of DEAL WITH THE DEVIL will be available at comic book retailers everywhere later this fall, featuring 136 pages in full color. Retailers may order copies of the book through PREVIEWS, order code AUG052625.
