Komikwerks, LLC announced today that the first four books of Actionopolis, their new line of illustrated prose novels for young readers, is set to arrive in comics shops on Wednesday, September 27th.
Each book is a beautiful, hardcover edition featuring the writing and illustration of some of the top names in comics, animation, film, video games and literature. The books feature heroic action adventure stories geared towards 9-12 year-old readers.
Komikwerks reports receiving a steady flow of written praise from professional storytellers, librarians, parents and, most importantly, kids.
"Response to this first wave of Actionopolis books has been phenomenal," said Komikwerks co-founder Shannon Eric Denton. "Between the positive reaction from librarians and kids, the Hollywood producers who have been inquiring, and the sheer joy of getting these books in stores, everyone at Actionopolis is amped."
Comics shop patrons will be the first to be able to purchase the books when four of the initial seven titles will arrive in stores next Wednesday. The titles include:
* "The Forest King" written by Dan Mishkin (creator of "Blue Devil"
and "Amethyst")
and illustrated by Tom Mandrake ("Batman" and "The Spectre")
* "What I did on my Hypergalactic, Interstellar Summer Vacation") written by
Adam Beechen ("Robin" and "Justice League Unlimited") and illustrated by
Dan Hipp ("The Amazing Joy Buzzards")
* "Heir to Fire" written by Rob M. Worley ("Young Ancient One" and "Advent Rising") and
illustrated by Mike Dubisch ("Dungeons & Dragons")
* "Spirit of the Samurai" written by Gary Reed ("Renfield" and "Saint
Germaine") and
illustrated by Rick Hoberg ("Star Wars" and "Ultimate Avengers II")
"Shannon, me, and all the talented writers and artists have worked extremely hard to produce some well-written, dynamically illustrated, fun stories for boys, girls, grown-ups, comic fans...heck, EVERYONE can enjoy the Actionopolis books! I can't wait to see readers'
reactions!" said Komikwerks co-founder Patrick Coyle.
The second wave of Actionopolis titles is set to ship in October. This round includes:
* "Blackfoot Braves Society" written by Christopher E. Long ("Easy Way" and
"X-Men Unlimited") with illustrations by Michael Geiger (EIDOS games)
