The anticipation for Top Cow’s summer event First Born has been steadily building in the comics community since it was first announced in Wizard Magazine’s 2007 Preview Issue in January. Top Cow is pleased to provide their retail partners and fans with an advanced preview look of the series in First Born First Look which arrives in stores in June.
Spinning out of current events in the ongoing Witchblade series, First Born will finally reveal the truth behind Sara Pezzini’s mysterious pregnancy and culminate with the birth of her first child. In turn this birth will have lasting effects in Witchblade, The Darkness ongoing series launching in the Fall, and other Top Cow Universe titles for the coming year. First Born First Look will provide fans with a recap of the events leading up to the three issue mini-series launching in July along with bonus behind the scenes material including covers and development art. First Born is written by regular ongoing Witchblade series writer Ron Marz (Ion, Samurai: Heaven & Earth), who is joined by Croation painting sensation Stjepan Sejic (The Darkness Level 1, Witchblade). With a suggested retail price of only 99 cents, First Born First Look serves as a perfect jumping on point for both new and existing fans. Additionally, a First Born lead in will be included in Image’s 2007 Free Comic Book Day title Robert Kirkman’s Wolfman and in Top Cow’s June Marvel crossover entitled Top Cow/Marvel:Unholy Union.
“The whole idea with First Born was to tell a story that matters”, explained author Marz, “Yes, it's a crossover in that it involves the central characters and themes of the Top Cow Universe, but we're concentrating on telling a tight story, rather than some sprawling thing with a dozen tie-in chapters”.
“Simply put this is Top Cow doing the summer crossover event we’d like to read as fans”, commented Filip Sablik, Vice President of Marketing & Sales, “Three fully painted, self contained issues means a low financial commitment from fans for maximum story enjoyment. This series is going to be jam packed, epic, and offer fans a real payoff”.
Marz added, “I'm really pleased with the way it's turning out, especially Stjepan's amazing artwork. With the Free Comic Book Day story, and the 99-cent issue, we've done a couple of appetizers that I think will make people want to come back for the main course”.
