Don't think of OPPOSITE FORCES as a mere superhero book, cautions creator, writer and artist Tom Bancroft.
Think of it instead as a story disguised as a superhero book, much as the story's two main characters disguise the fact that they're a superhero team despite the fact that they would never be seen together in ordinary life.
It is story, after all, that has helped this title to develop an excellent and established fanbase, both during its original run and its new release through ALIAS Comics in color. But readers also love the book's animated style and cartoonish art, which Bancroft is more than qualified to provide; after all, he spent twelve years as a Disney animator working on feature films like “Beauty and the Beast," "The Lion King," "Mulan," and "Tarzan," as well as another two years working for Big Idea Productions on the hit "Veggie Tales" video and film series.
"I've always loved comics, every since I was a kid," explained Bancroft. "When I was working in animation, though, I didn't have the time to draw them - when I got home from a day of drawing, I was pretty burned out, and the last thing I was thinking about was drawing a comic book on the side. But when I started working for Big Idea Productions and was using a computer to do most of my animation, I found myself wanting to draw, and that was when the idea for OPPOSITE FORCES began to brew."
The idea of OPPOSITE FORCES is simple: the nerdy Marty and the beautiful Alexis live across the hallway from each other in their apartment building, but they're far from friends. Marty is a nerdy computer guy with a tendency to peer through the windows to watch Alexis and her roommate, Jennifer, earning him the nickname "Mr. Peepers." But when the powers of superhero Captain Dynamo are transferred to Marty and Alexis in an accident, the two are forced to work together as a team to save the city that Dynamo can no longer defend.
"It's really about how two different people who would normally never be together are forced to be together," said Bancroft. "And even more opposites are introduced when Marty's no-nonsense dog Bopper and Alexis's snobby dog Waggles become part of the story."
In its original run, OPPOSITE FORCES found an excellent audience from readers of all ages and preferences, and the re-release has already tripled the book's readership in sales alone. Because of the book's animated style, it has a delightful feel that anyone can enjoy, and its all-ages story is accessible to anyone who enjoys a little bit of fun in their comics.
"It's hard not to be excited about OPPOSITE FORCES, especially after you see the artwork," said Mike S. Miller, President of ALIAS Comics. "Tom Bancroft knows how to tell a fun story, and this book is good enough that it deserves not to be overlooked. Fortunately, we've been selling copies like crazy over the summer at conventions and through retailers, which means that readers know a good thing when they see it."
OPPOSITE FORCES is a 4-part series, and the first issue is available now at comic book retailers everywhere for the cover price of 75 cents. The second issue will hit shelves in mid-September. Retailers wishing to order more copies of the title can find the book in the ALIAS section of PREVIEWS.
