With FREEDOM FORCE #3 (JAN05 1601) arriving in stores this week, and last week's release of FREEDOM FORCE vs THE 3RD REICH, the sequel to 2002's hit tactical role-playing game for the home computer, Image Comics and Irrational Games are pleased to announce that the second issue of the Silver Age-styled miniseries has sold out at the publisher level.
Written by Eric Dieter and featuring art by Tom Scioli, FREEDOM FORCE #2 arrived in stores on February 16th and sold out in a matter of weeks.
Adapted from 2002's best-selling computer game of the same name, FREEDOM FORCE is the story of a band of super-powered heroes from the 1960s who unite in the name of freedom to ward off an alien invasion, giant robots, deadly duplicates, nefarious demigods and assorted cosmic entities.
"This is fantastic news," says Irrational's General Manager and Creative Director, Ken Levine. "It just goes to show that comic book readers still love comics that are fun and action-packed."
"Readers and retailers alike shoud be keeping a close eye on this series, because we've got a number exciting things coming up," says Levine. "For Issue #6, I'll be penning a very special 10-page backup story with art by the video game's Lead Artist, Robb Waters."
"Later this year, we'll be exploring the untold origins of various Freedom Force members including the never-before-told origin of the android, Microwave. After that, our plans are to continue on with a follow-up featuring all-new adventures that really flesh out the world of FREEDOM FORCE."
For his part, artist Tom Sciloli is moving on to the just announced monthly Image book, GØDLAND, written by Joe Casey, and hitting stands in June.
FREEDOM FORCE vs THE 3RD REICH, the aforementioned computer game sequel, is now available in computer game stores nationwide.
The remaining Issues of the FREEDOM FORCE miniseries are available as follows:
* FREEDOM FORCE #4 (FEB05 1588) is solicited in the February issue of Previews (Volume XV #2) and is scheduled to arrive in stores on April 20th.
* FREEDOM FORCE #5 (MAR05 1689) is solicited in the March issue of Previews (Volume XV #3) and is scheduled to arrive in stores on May 18th.
* FREEDOM FORCE #6 (APR05 1675) is solicited in the April issue of Previews (Volume XV #4) and is scheduled to arrive in stores on June 15th.
Image does not plan to go back to press on this issue. Please note that copies may still be available in stores, so check with your local comic shops now!
