In a tragic instant, Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords went from a member of Congress to national symbol of hope and an upcoming issue of Bluewater Productions “Female Force” biography comic book series seeks to take full measure of her life as a legislator through her courageous struggle to recover from an assassin’s bullet.
For the anniversary of the shooting, the NOOK & KINDLE editions of, “Female Force: Gabrielle Giffords” is available on Tuesday. The comic book follows the Fulbright Scholar’s career from local Tucson businessperson to popular Arizona politician. Most notably, the issue will revolve around the tragic events of January 8, 2011 when a gunman killed six people and wounded 13 others including Giffords in a horrific attempt on the Congressman’s life.
The physical copy comic book can be pre-ordered for a January 29th release. To pre-order the book, please go to Amazon.com.
“Not to diminish the loss of life or life-changing injuries from this senseless act, but we witnessed something incredible,” said Bluewater president Darren Davis. “Giffords fought. She survived. And she began a remarkable and ongoing recovery.”
According to writer CW Cooke, another incredible thing happened. For a brief moment, her situation and the horrible tragedy made the public and the politicians that represent us examine the unceasing rancor in modern politics.
“Her struggle is a great American comeback story,” Cooke said, “From the scantest of movements in her fingers to her watching her astronaut husband’s liftoff on the penultimate Shuttle mission to her triumphant reappearance in the halls of Congress during the debt ceiling debate; Giffords is definitely a female force.”
“Female Force: Gabrielle Giffords,” penciled by Nicholas Justus, will retail for $3.99 and be available through most online venues like Amazon.com as well as local comic book stores.
