The Gargoyles, stone by day, flesh and blood by night, have been freed from a millennium-long curse. Now living in modern-day Manhattan, the Gargoyles--formerly warriors in medieval Scotland--have had their existence exposed to a world that may not be ready.
Complicating their dilemma is a mysterious organization called the Quarrymen, which has devoted itself to destroying the Gargoyles. Can the Clan count on their human friends to help protect them? Or will fear and hatred force the Gargoyles to return to the shadows?"
Coming in June 2006 from SLG Publishing and Disney is Gargoyles, a new comic book that picks up where the hit animated series left off. Gargoyles is written by Greg Weisman, the creator of the TV show, which ran from 1994 to 1997. Greg Guler, who was the show's lead character designer, directs the art for the comic and draws the cover illustrations. The interiors of the comic are drawn by David Hedgecock (15 Minutes) and colored by Will Terrell.
The comic book picks up where season two left off, and as Weisman knows, fans are eagerly anticipating where the storyline will take Goliath, Angela, Brooklyn and the other Gargoyles. "I'm tremendously excited--and vaguely terrified at the same time," he said. "I know a lot of people have been waiting a long time for this."
Artist David Hedgecock also admits that being in an environment of high expectations has put some pressure on him. "The fan response so far has been pretty overwhelming. I'm trying very hard to stay true to the original art style of the series," he said. "I'm just trying to add a few details and touches where I can make the book mine." He added that colorist Will Terrell has helped him "worry less" about the artwork. "He's making me look good."
Fans have kept interest in Gargoyles alive for the nearly ten years since the end of the animated series, enthusiastically creating an online community and a universe of fan art and fan fiction. "The fans have kept my interest in the property high and vice versa," said Weisman. "So I never stopped thinking about Goliath, Elisa and the others. And I've got ten years' worth of story ideas that I'm just dying to tell."
Gargoyles will be an ongoing, FULL COLOR comic book series, with issue one scheduled to be in stores in June 2006. Each issue will be available in comic book stores, at Amazon.com, and directly from the publisher at www.slgpublishing.com. Issue one is available now for pre-order at comic book stores.
Gargoyles is one of four Disney-licensed comics published by SLG Publishing. Haunted Mansion and Tron are available now. Wonderland will debut in May.
