Brian Defferding, author and artist of the independent horror comic book series School: A Ghost Story, releases the first collected trade paperback of the title, encasing the first four-issue run in one volume, to be sold through Discount Comic Book Service!
“This makes it easier for those looking to jump on board with the series without needing to spend all that unnecessary time finding all the single issues through different vendors,” Defferding said.
The collected volume (144 pages of black-and-white artwork), published by Defferding’s Deftoons Comics publishing label, will be on sale through the month of December for $10.17 and is sold alongside the 96-page School: A Ghost Story #5 for $9.75, with a packaged sale that includes a free 14”x17” School poster for those who buy both issues.
School: A Ghost Story is about a twelve-year-old girl named Lindsay Buckner, whom suddenly one morning wakes up inside an elementary school covered in blood. It is not long before she realizes that she is a ghost inside this strange school and she just suffered through horrifying fatal trauma, but she cannot recall what happened to her and why. While she tries to figure out the mystery behind her murder, she is hunted by hollow-eyed tentacled monsters that want to devour the one thing Lindsay has left: her soul. The story is a race to figure out what happened before she is consumed by these dark creatures, or before she becomes one herself.
The comic has critics raving, with Bryan Schuessler from horrorsociety.com saying “School is an intelligent look into the mind of a lost and terribly hurt teenager that plays upon her fears and being utterly lost at having been murdered and thrust into a “world” of sorts that is somewhere in between heaven and hell,” and Jennie Milojevic from BloodtypeOnline.com saying “Defferding has created an inventive and well-paced horror tale.”
Brian Defferding is a Wisconsin-based illustrator for hire. He started School: A Ghost Story as a senior project at Minneapolis College of Art and Design, with the first issue released in June 2005.
