The Animé Los Angeles (ALA) Convention, currently in its fifth year, begins today, Friday January 2nd and runs through Sunday, January 4th. Comic book creator Dani Dixon (“13,” “Escape! To Outer Space”) spoke at Animé L.A.’s 2008 convention shortly after the debut of her series “13.” A year later, programmers invited Dixon back to make two appearances at the 2009 convention.
On Saturday morning Dixon will discuss with new artists the steps involved in creating that first professional portfolio. The session on Saturday (January 2nd at 9:30AM) is open to all convention attendees and is meant to be more of an interactive panel, rather than a lecture. Artists will be encouraged to ask questions along the way to enable them to put their best foots forward in future endeavors.
Artists will then be given a full day to apply the lessons learned. On Sunday morning (January 4th at 10:00AM) Dixon will give all the portfolios presented professional reviews, some may even be considered for current open assignments at TUMBLE CREEK PRESS. Dixon will also be available for autographs at that time.
