“We are extremely proud to be publishing GOLLY!, said Harry Markos, Markosia’s Managing Partner. “Phil is a huge talent and GOLLY! is a very cool idea. I love the preview pages and can’t wait to see what happens next.”
GOLLY! was created and written by Phil Hester. The series will be penciled by long time assistant Brook Turner with inks by Peter Palmiotti.
What is GOLLY! all about?
What if they threw an Apocalypse and nobody came? The End times are upon us, but to be honest, Heaven and Hell have lost all enthusiasm for anything resembling a Final Judgment. Earth's guardian angel selects Golly Munhollen, part time race car driver, part time carny, and full time dumb ass to become humanity's defender against the remaining elements of Hell still bent on starting some crap come Judgment Day. By day Golly repairs rides on the midway, by night he stumbles ass backwards into the weird menaces that seem to pop up in every town on the carnival's route. Golly is aided in his quest by his carny pals: Vaughn, the 6'6" tattooed man; Pig, former freak show fat lady turned strong woman; Miguel, the genius dog-faced boy acrobat; and Satan, former monarch of Hell now down on his luck and working the midway for cigarette money. Recommended for immature mature readers for strong language and coarse humor.
Hester, who is teaming up with Robert Kirkman this fall to bring readers the wildly odd new Antman series from Marvel, is also a Eisner nominated writer.
“I am not sure that Phil gets enough credit as a writer,” said Chuck Satterlee, Markosia’s Director of Operations and a writer himself. “Phil has a command of the odd. He is a masterful writer and GOLLY! is something that we are damn proud to be a part of.”
“I was asked last week on Comic Geek Speak what I get out of the association with Markosia,” said Hester. “They are holding my hand. Image and Markosia are very good alternatives to self-publishing. This way, I know that my properties are being taken care of. Markosia is doing a very good job and I am proud to be counted among titles like STARSHIP TROOPERS, THE LEXIAN CHRONICLES, OF BITTER SOULS and DONE TO DEATH.”
GOLLY! will be hitting store shelves in December.
