Dynamite Entertainment today announced that their first event mini-series from the Classic Battlestar Galactica comic book line will feature Lost and Medium writer and producer Javier Grillo-Marxuach.
Grillo-Marxuach will write a very special event driven mini-series! The prolific creator is a big, big fan of the original Galactica Universe: "One of my favorite childhood memories is sitting in a movie theater, watching Battlestar Galactica... in Sensurround! With the renewed interest in all things Galactica, it truly is an honor to revisit the swashbuckling world of the original series and tell a big, heroic adventure that's both true to the character of the classic universe and so epic in scope it can only be presented in the comics medium... and that's no felgercarb!"
"This is a great time to be a fan of Battlestar Galactica. Some of the best television on the air today is broadcast under the Galactica name - and the success of this reinvention has re-awakened interest in all things Battlestar. It's a godsend for those of us who also love the original series as well as the new. With this special miniseries, I truly hope to do justice to the unique character of the Classic Galactica: a show that balanced the urgency of its premise with a larger-than-life sense of adventure and a healthy dose of humor. I also can't overstate how wonderful it is to have the opportunity to revisit the Classic Battlestar in the comics medium. As spectacular as the original series was on the TV screen, nothing can compete with comics in delivering breathtaking vistas, massive space battles and bizarre new worlds... not to mention the true scope of the Cylon menace. Thanks to Dynamite Entertainment, the Classic Battlestar Galactica universe is opening up in a bold and exciting way!"
“When the announcement went out concerning both Galactica licenses, we received a ton of pitches from many of the best creators in the business,” commented Dynamite. “The best way, we feel, to accommodate all of these wonderful ideas is to pick and choose the best of the best, in order to release the right mini’s and one-shots, to bring the best stories possible. We’re thrilled that Javier freed up time from his own comics to join us for this special series event!”
The mini-series is being scheduled for an early '07 release. Look for more information on this and other Classic Battlestar Galactica news in the weeks to come.
