Award-winning filmmaker Matt Pizzolo ("THREAT") will be the featured guest at the Halo-8 Entertainment booth when the indie film studio debuts its new full-color comic book and graphic novel publishing division at Wizard World Chicago on June 26, 2008, it was announced today.
Pizzolo created and wrote both flagship titles for the new publisher starting with the post-nuke hero's journey "GODKILLER," illustrated by Anna Muckcracker, and the manga-style college sex comedy "HOW I LOST MY VIRGINITY –BY ALEXANDRA JONES," penciled and colored by Andrea Blanco with inks by Ale Alvarez.
"Matt's stories offer the kind of next-level storytelling we would be excited to release in any format," said Todd Miller, Director of Operations for Halo-8. "Above all, Halo-8's mission is to support bold voices and unique visions... today's freshest and most exciting creators want the freedom of choosing the most appropriate medium for each project, so expanding into comic books and graphic novels is simply the next step in our commitment to daring storytelling."
"Halo-8's reputation for discovering the most bleeding-edge new creators is confirmed once again by the work that newcomers Anna, Andrea, and Ale have done on these books," said Pizzolo. "All the artists have created such lush, dynamic worlds that anything I could do with a camera would literally pale in comparison."
GODKILLER takes place in a dark-future after economic collapse, after nuclear holy war, and after Earth is colonized by alien races. Tommy and his kid sister Lucy live in an orphanage in one of the few remaining city-states, but Lucy is critically ill and desperately in need of a new heart. Tommy's odyssey to find a new heart for his sister begins when he follows an organ-stealing prostitute named Halfpipe out of the city-state and into the savage borderland known as Outer City. GODKILLER mixes unforgiving brutality, quantum physics, conspiracy theory, and secret history for an iconoclastic hero's journey like none before it.
HOW I LOST MY VIRGINITY –BY ALEXANDRA JONES is the story of a sheltered 18-year old girl who faces culture shock when she enters the fast life of a film school freshman at Southern California University. Growing up with an overprotective, ex-Marine single dad didn't prepare her for promiscuous dorm life, but it did give her the moxie to stand up against the evil Dean Stockwell and announce her student film will be an x-rated documentary about her quest to lose her virginity. HOW I LOST MY VIRGINITY –BY ALEXANDRA JONES is a unique, millennial twist on the sex comedy genre that mixes firecracker charm with laugh-out-loud humor and a sly, subversive wit.
