Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy 2 will be the first US produced film to be shot at the new Korda Studios in Hungary. Principal photography on the Universal Pictures project commences in June.
Here’s an excerpt from the original article in Variety:
Helmed by Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth"), the pic will be the largest production ever to be shot in Hungary. Despite benefiting from a 20% tax incentive, Hungary has so far had problems attracting high profile productions such as "Hellboy 2" because the country lacked suitable soundstages.
With the completion of $124 million Korda Studios, which is situated in an abandoned military base 16 miles outside of Budapest, Hungary intends to offer a viable alternative to the Czech Republic and woo U.S. studios away from Prague.
Korda Studios is to feature six state-of-the-art sound stages and the world's second- largest water tank. Four sound stages and production facilities opened for business in April this year, six months ahead of schedule in order to accommodate "Hellboy 2." Construction still continues for the remainder of the complex including the water tank.
