THE CITY OF NEW YORK
OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
NEW YORK , NY 10007
June 6, 2008
Dear Friends:
It is a pleasure to welcome everyone attending the Big Apple Comic Convention Summer Sizzler and the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) Arts Festival.
We’re a metropolis. People often call us Gotham. Spider-Man himself even makes his home in Queens. Not only do many comic books take place in our City or fictionalized versions thereof, but this burgeoning industry also originated here in the 1930s, and some of the world’s best comic book artists and writers have called our City home. Indeed, nobody can deny that New York is the world’s preeminent comic book municipality, so we are the ideal host for these action-packed events. Comic books have made immense contributions to our economy and culture while promoting a positive image of the five boroughs, and this weekend’s festivities will do so much to maintain and enhance that proud tradition.
The next few days will give our comic book aficionados the opportunity to enjoy appearances by artists, writers, and dealers from across the country, along with informative panels on the art, business, and history of comics. Most of all, it’s going to be a lot of fun! On behalf of the City of New York, please accept my best wishes for a fantastic weekend and continued success.
Sincerely,
Michael R. Bloomberg
Mayor
