As the big spring Motor City show starts up today, Hero Initiative has just announced that creator Michael Golden will be signing and sketching at the Hero Initiative booth on Saturday May, 19 from 1-2 and possibly beyond.

Although Golden was happily involved in the "Spiderman 100" project, this will be the first of hopefully many times that Golden will donate his art and efforts to help HERO. "This is a cause that I strongly support and wholeheartedly believe in," said Golden. "Professionals banding together to help other professionals is a wonderful thing."

To mark the occasion, Golden will be signing a special exclusive numbered print to be unveiled only at the show, available for a minimum $20. donation to HERO INITIATIVE. Marker head sketches are available during his signing times for an additional $40 donation.

Known for his signature story construction and an art style uniquely his own, Michael's work is currently appearing on projects at Marvel, DC Comics, and Dynamic Forces, including those eye-popping Iron Man covers hitting the stands now. Current projects include Vanguard Productions manga Bucky O'Hare, as well. And although this project completely sold out on the first printing, a second printing of the project has been flown in from Hong Kong just for this weekends Motor City Con. If that weren't enough, future Golden projects featuring this artist's work include the deluxe art retrospective from Vanguard, Excess: The Art of Michael Golden, featuring an introduction by heavyweight creator Todd McFarlane; the Modern Masters book on Golden from TwoMorrows Publishing; the DVD Modern Masters in the Studio with Michael Golden; and a two part DVD interview from Creator Chronicles , all due out this year.

Recently accepted to the august Society of Illustrators in Manhattan, and having just finished a two week European tour as a guest of the Flemish Government along with artist Joe Jusko, Michael has served as an Editor at DC Comics as well as Senior Art Director at Marvel Comics, and has worked on scores of movie production projects, including some currently in development.

It's no wonder that Golden and many other comic book professionals feel compelled to support the goals of this non-profit organization. The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. Hero creates a financial safety net for yesterdays' creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It's a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment. For information on The Hero Initiative, please visit: www.heroinitiative.org

And be sure to visit their booth at this weekends Motor City Comic Convention is taking place in Novi, Michigan near Detroit, May 18-20. Visit www.motorcityconventions.com for directions and details.
