Variety has reported that Marvel Studios has set June 27, 2008 as the release date for a new Hulk movie, tentatively called The Incredible Hulk.

With The Incredible Hulk hitting theatres in summer 2008, the movie will follow on the heels of Iron Man, scheduled for a May 2 release the same year. Placing two movie releases virtually back-to-back is not new to Marvel, as the company released X-Men 2 in May 2003 with the first Hulk film in circulation the following month.

Marvel Studios has gone out of its way to stress that the upcoming Hulk film will be anything but a sequel to Ang Lee’s take on the character, which grossed $132 million, but was still seen as a failure because many moviegoers and comic fans alike felt the Hulk was treated more like sobbing creature than the true green smasher he’s supposed to be.

This past summer, Marvel Studios named Louis Leterrier (Unleashed) as the new director. Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd and Kevin Feige will produce, while Zak Pen (X-Men 3: The Last Stand) will write the screenplay.
