The International Comic Arts Association (ICAA) in cooperation with author Tony Caputo and publisher Vanguard Productions is offering an online contest to win a copy of Visual Storytelling: The Art and Technique .
This invaluable reference guide by veteran comic book publisher Tony Caputo demonstrates everything the aspiring artist needs to know to master sequential art. The book explores the relationship between different forms of visual media including comic books, animation, motion pictures, storyboarding and video games. Readers will discover, through clear illustrations and pictures, each stage of the production process, including plotting, writing, penciling, lettering, inking, coloring, and painting. The book also shows step-by-step basics of figure drawing and anatomy, basic light and dark techniques, the basics of effective page composition, layout, and design as well as the art of creating incredible comic book covers and splash pages. Techniques are described using beautiful illustrations by such legendary artists as Mat Nastos, Jim Steranko, Neal Adams, Wally Wood, Andrew Loomis, Scott McCloud, Terry Moore and Jeff Smith. Additionally, Visual Storytelling features a ready-to-use guide that helps chart progress and skills in visual storytelling media.
This wonderfully crafted Vanguard edition of Visual Storytelling features an introduction by acclaimed science fiction writer Harlan Ellison and an essay by legendary comic book artist Jim Steranko. Additionally, the book features a full-color dust jacket and a 16-page bonus portfolio section by Steranko, further detailing his award-winning technique. This hardcover edition is limited to only 1,000 copies worldwide (never to be reprinted in this format) and is personally signed by author Tony Caputo, Harlan Ellison and Jim Steranko. The book retails for $49.95. More information about the book can be found at www.visualstorytelling.com and about the limited edition hardcover at Vanguard's website: www.creativemix.com/vanguard.
"We are very pleased to be able to offer this contest to our website visitors as a reward for their support of our organization," stated ICAA Executive Director, Erik Enervold. "Visual Storytelling is an indispensable tool for creators and artists of all types that provides an extensive inside look at the storytelling techniques used in several different mediums and their relationship to one another. This valuable reference belongs on the bookshelf of all aspiring and established sequential artists as well as anyone wishing to learn more about the techniques used to bring their favorite stories to life. The ICAA would like to thank author Tony Caputo and publisher J. David Spurlock at Vanguard Productions for generously donating this book to us, and for their continuing support of the ICAA and our efforts."
The ICAA will be giving away ONE copy of the deluxe, limited-edition, signed, hardcover book to a randomly selected winner who enters the contest on the organization's website - www.comicarts.org. The winner will be announced on December 15th, 2004. For more information or to enter the online drawing visit: http://www.comicarts.org/promo_storytelling.php.
