VIZ Media, LLC. (VIZ Media), one of the entertainment industry's most innovative and comprehensive manga and animation licensing and publishing companies, announced today the upcoming release of the third and latest Inuyasha feature film to hit North American stores. INUYASHA THE MOVIE 3: SWORDS OF AN HONORABLE RULER will debut on DVD on September 6 and retail for $24.98. The first 100,000 copies of the DVD will include a free, exclusive limited edition trading card from Score Entertainment. In addition, the launch will be supported with a national TV advertising campaign and a 15-market mobile theatre roadshow. Additional information on the movie can be found on the INUYASHA movie website at www.Inuyashamovie.net.
The film is based on creator Rumiko Takahashi’s highly successful manga about the adventures of a Kagome, a Japanese schoolgirl who is transported to feudal era Japan, where she encounters and befriends Inuyasha, a half-demon dog boy. Together they battle against demon, make new friends and allies while traveling across feudal Japan. INUYASHA THE MOVIE 3: SWORDS OF AN HONORABLE RULER starts with the myth of Inuyasha’s father. Many years ago, Inuyasha’s father, the Great Dog Demon, wielded the Three Swords of the Fang. Upon his death he bequeathed a sword to each of his sons, Inuyasha and his rival brother, Sesshomaru. He locked the third sword, the wrath-filled Sounga, away forever. Now, 700 years later, the Sounga’s tremendous power has been awakened and the two brothers must set aside their differences and join forces in an unlikely and uneasy alliance to battle a force that spells doom for all mankind.
"INUYASHA is considered to be a breakthrough Japanese animation property. With tremendous success in publishing, broadcast, home video and merchandise, INUYASHA has been a key driver of the popularity of anime and manga in North America." states Anthony Jiwa, director of marketing, VIZ Media. “This latest feature film, INUYASHA THE MOVIE 3: SWORDS OF AN HONORABLE RULER will enthrall audiences with new and exciting adventures and is sure to be even more successful than the previous two feature films.”
INUYASHA has established itself as one of the most popular and successful manga/anime properties in North America and Japan due to its stunning artwork, beautiful animation, compelling characters and sophisticated storytelling. The manga series is one of VIZ Media’s most successful, and sold more graphic novels than any other manga property in North America last year. Retail industry watchdog ICv2 also named Inuyasha the 2004 Anime Property of the Year in 2004. The first two INUYASHA feature films, released on DVD by VIZ Media last year, have already sold more than 200,000 copies each. The INUYASHA anime series, also distributed by VIZ Media, currently airs on Cartoon Network in the U.S. and on YTV in Canada, with a range of related videogames, trading card game, action figures and related merchandise have further bolstered the popularity of the title among a growing legion of fans.
