This past weekend, writer David Hopkins released a Karma Incorporated Script Book through print-on-demand provider Lulu.com. The book features the complete script of first series Poor Mr. Wilson and the unreleased second series Vice and Virtue. The 174 pages also include art from the series, sketches, and promotional material by Karma Incorporated collaborator, Tom Kurzanski.

Originally published by Viper Comics, Karma Incorporated is about the misadventures of a non-lethal hit-for-hire agency. The trade paperback came out in September 2007 with the anticipation of a second series, Vice and Virtue, to be in stores a few months later. However, there were delays, which put off the release indefinitely.  Hopkins decided to publish a script book as a way to make the second series available to fans.

Printing through Lulu was an easy choice.

“I didn’t want to take a huge financial risk on this script book, since there isn’t a large market for this stuff, especially from a small writer like myself,” Hopkins said. “I wanted something simple, and the quality of print-of-demand is good. I love reading comic book scripts. I hope more writers would print scripts through Lulu.”

However, making Vice and Virtue available in script format was a harder choice.

“I’m really proud of this story. I love these characters, and I want to see it in a fully realized comic book format, but I also know I have to move on to some other projects. Printing the script book gives me an opportunity to share a story I’ve wanted to tell for a few years. It’s always possible the comic book version may still come out, but that’s not a priority.”

Hopkins plans to debut the script book at Dallas Comic Con on August 15-16. Copies are currently available online.Visit http://stores.lulu.com/davidhopkins to order.
