In June 2005, Capcom released Killer 7, a stylized, post-modern action-adventure game for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and Nintendo GameCube™. In January, Devil’s Due, partnered with Kinitec Underground and will publish a comic book series based on this hot new game. A special ZERO issue was included in an EB GAMES advance-order exclusive carrying the DDP logo; a special 1/2 issue was released at San Diego (the
1/2 issue will include the content from ZERO).
The series will be 12 issues in 2 six-issue story arcs beginning this February. Each issue will retail for $2.95 with Art Director David Forrest, Writer Arvid Nelson (Rex Mundi), Illustrator Bong Dazo ( The Irregulars, The Trist), and Cover Artist Sanford Green (Army of Darkness, Rival Schools). There is also a limited edition killer 7 lithograph offer with the release of the first issue. Check out the ad in DDP's Diamond Preview's comic section next week for more information.
Killer 7 is a hard-boiled action-adventure game that chronicles the connection between two men whose intertwined paths develop into a compelling tale of revenge and altering personas. Harman Smith an unlikely assassin who leads a life as the “master” who rules over seven alter egos. Switching between his seven different personalities, Harman employs each personality’s unique abilities to complete their mission. Now, a powerful underworld kingpin has unleashed violent creatures onto the world called ‘Heaven’s Smile.’ These crazed soldiers, affixed with horrific smiles, have started to wreak havoc on city streets.
Unique characters, complex story and dark imagery presented with striking cel-shaded graphics are all the essential ingredients for this new thrilling game style. Killer 7 is rated ‘M’ for mature audiences by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board).
“It’s a cool, very stylized looking game,” said DDP President Josh Blaylock. “The unique story of killer 7 will make the perfect comic book, one we’re excited to publish.”
The Killer 7 comic book series is directed by David Forrest, founder and president of Kinetic Komicz and Kinetic Underground. “I saw this as a great opportunity. Killer 7 is like nothing I've ever seen. I think it will have a lot of cross-cultural appeal,” Forrest said. One of the most striking things about the game is its stark, moody, cell-shaded visual style.”
Writer Arvid Nelson says the comic will remain true to Capcom’s dark masterpiece. “The game is furious, it never lets up,” Nelson said. “And it’s got a very twisted sense of humor, too. Lots of surprises. That’s how I’m approaching the story.”
As for the story, Nelson and Forrest remain elusive, “I’ll just say it’s really cool, a kind of mutant cross-breeding of John Woo and Quentin Tarantino,” Nelson replied. “There’s a lot of action and a lot of arterial blood spray in it, to be sure.”
“It’s spooky, it’s funny, and it’s violent, but it’s also really smart, and that’s what makes it so great to work on,” Forrest said. “But it’s so more than that. Working on the comic has been really cool. People have no idea what they’re in for!”
