Today, the digital comics publisher Komikwerks (www.komikwerks.com) announces two new additions to its growing line of digital comics: THE FRONT by stellar artist Jerzy Drozd, and PPV, by Drozd and writer Tom Root (Comedy Central’s ROBOT CHICKEN).

“The Front is a fantasy story told in the Super-Hero genre with the sensibilities of the Saturday morning cartoon in mind,” says Drozd. “You have a relatively normal teenage boy who is attacked at the county fair by a big hairy monster in pants. Soon the boy finds out that he’s an important player in this ancient prophecy, and that the monster that attacked him is working for a villain who is as old as the prophecy. The story is about what a modern teen would do when given that information, but it’s also about wild and over-the-top characters doing each other great harm. The Front is designed to get heavy and mythic at times, but never so heavy that we forget that it’s a fun ride.”

“Jerzy’s art just blows me away!” says Steve Horton, online comics editor for Komikwerks. “We’ve got high art standards at Komikwerks, but this guy more than qualifies. Saturday morning cartoons may be all but dead at the networks, but thanks to The Front, they live on!”

Says Drozd: “The best description I can think of for The Front comes from Matt Shepherd: ‘Non-ironic, straight-up, rock-and-roll fun.’”

Drozd and Root’s other webcomic is completely insane. Fans of Root’s creation, ROBOT CHICKEN, should feel right at home with this one.

“PPV is super-powered mayhem, where the ante is constantly upped until the last few pages,” says Drozd. “The standard idea of the super-powered character is some caped do-gooder stopping muggers and alien invaders — in PPV, it’s a bunch of teens given super-powers and locked in their school so we can watch the action. Flying hillbillies versus armored jocks versus energy-construct wielding math nerds — it’s as if you took some 1980s John Hughes films and merged them with pro wrestling. But there’s the heroic aspect to the story through the lovable loser Evan, who tries desperately to get his classmates to work together against a menace even greater than themselves.”

“I love this stuff,” says Horton. “It gets high marks for originality and puts a whole new spin on the super-hero genre.”

Check out THE FRONT on AOL and Komikwerks.com seven days a week until its archives catch up, and check out PPV at AOL on Fridays, and on www.komikwerks.com on Saturdays!
