On his MySpace blog, Geoff Johns posted an update on ‘Last Son’. The Superman storyline, co-written by Richard Donner, originally set for publication in the pages of DC’s Action Comics will now move to Action Comics Annual #11. The decision to discontinue the story’s publication over in the longest-running Superman title was made to accommodate artist Adam Kubert’s schedule.
The release schedule of Last Son has been altered before when Action Comics underwent a content change as of January’s issue #847.
Here’s a copy of the full post Johns made yesterday:
A note to let everyone know that our "Last Son" finale has been moved to ACTION COMICS ANNUAL #11 to accomdate Adam's schedule and allow us to continue on with our Action Comics run.
From Comicbloc.com:
First things first, I haven't done any of the fill-ins because, beyond JSoA and GREEN LANTERN, I've leaped ahead on ACTION COMICS and am already working on the last half of 2007 and into 2008. Kurt and I are totally in sync and have laid out the plans for 2007 and 2008 and it's always a pleasure to work with him in the same Superman-verse.
Much like WONDER WOMAN, the last chapter of LAST SON will be in ACTION COMICS ANNUAL #11 later this year when Adam's finished with it. This, quite frankly, allows us to move ahead and get our work on Action Comics coming out monthly with the stories we want to tell.
Donner and I resume our Action run with Eric Powell's three issue arc "ESCAPE FROM BIZARRO WORLD" which we're already working on. I've seen the first several pages and Eric is doing fantastic work.
Immediately following that, I've also began working far ahead with the artist taking over the monthly reigns of Action Comics. He's unbelievably talented, you've seen his most recent work at Marvel, and he's it in for the long haul. Our first storyline will be announced very soon and springs forth from the JLoA/JSoA crossover.
Anymore questions throw them my way and I'll do my best to answer them.
Thanks for reading,
Geoff
