The hits just keep on coming for ASP’s THE LONE AND LEVEL SANDS as the acclaimed graphic novel has been nominated for three of the prestigious Harvey Awards.
Writer A. David Lewis was nominated for Best New Talent; Jennifer Rodgers for Best Colorist; and the book itself is up for Best Graphic Album (Original), which includes both the original black-and-white Caption Box edition and the ASP full-color edition. Award winners will be announced at a special ceremony at the Baltimore Comic-Con on Sept 9.
THE LONE AND LEVEL SANDS most recently won Honorable Mention in the Graphic Novel category of ForeWord Magazine’s annual Book of the Year Awards. It has also won the Howard E. Day Memorial Prize for best small press and alternative comic and was nominated for the Glyph Awards’ Best Reprint Publication.
“Can I say I’m shocked, thrilled, astounded and giddy?” asked writer David Lewis. “I’m so proud of this book and the work that both Marv [Mann] and Jennifer did on it… To see our collective blood, sweat and tears turn into not just one, but three, Harvey Award nominations is icing.”
Jennifer Rodgers, colorist on THE LONE AND LEVEL SANDS, said, “I'm surprised and delighted. It's such an honor to be nominated, but being mentioned alongside outstanding colorists from both Marvel and DC is truly amazing. I'm also thrilled to be granted such an honor for my first published book in the industry. Not bad! But seriously, I'm very proud of this book and our team. Dave's interesting story and Marv's excellent art made THE LONE AND LEVEL SANDS a pleasure to work on."
Named in honor of the late Harvey Kurtzman, one of the industry's most innovative talents, the Harvey Awards recognize outstanding work in comics and sequential art. Nominations are selected exclusively by creators in the comics field, from those who write and draw the books to everything and everyone involved in a creative capacity within the comics world. The Harvey Awards are a part of the Baltimore Comic-Con held at the Baltimore Convention Center Sept 9-10. Final ballots are due to the Harvey Awards by Friday, July 28. Voting is open to anyone involved in a creative capacity within the comics field.
