Since its release on September 26, The Looking Glass Wars, a novel telling the true story of Alice in Wonderland, by author Frank Beddor, published by Dial Books, a division of Penguin Group (USA) Inc. and Scholastic Audiobooks, has spent seven weeks on the prestigious New York Times Best Seller List for Children’s Chapter Books, reaching as high as number 5 on the list.
The Looking Glass Wars originally became a sensation in the U.K. when it debuted there in 2004 before making its way to U.S. shores in September. Its story revealed how Lewis Carroll, author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, had willfully misrepresented the story of seven-year-old Alyss Heart, betraying the exiled princess of Wonderland by turning her painful history into a fairytale, when, in fact, it is a dark and dangerous depiction of familial treachery, thwarted love, and the despotic domination of imagination.
“The first novel has been doing exceptionally well,” said Beddor. “Having produced a novel that has been recognized by the New York Times as a best seller is quite an honor. I’m thrilled that so many people are curious about the power of imagination and are investigating what the book has to reveal. So with the holidays coming I am looking forward to eager readers of all ages ripping and shredding the wrapping paper on record numbers of The Looking Glass Wars.”
The Looking Glass Wars is available at all major book store locations, including Borders, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million and Walden Books and online at Amazon.com. The book can be found by using the ISBN number 0-8037-3153-1.
If you plan on shopping at Borders, look for The Looking Glass Wars Soundtrack to accompany the novel. Borders is the exclusive retail outlet for the soundtrack; 12 original musical creations developed especially to enhance the reading experience.
A special Looking Glass Wars package is available this Holiday season at Walmart.com. There you can purchase the book and soundtrack in a package, along with a free copy of the comic, Hatter M #1.
“Anyone looking for the novel and other items should have no trouble finding them,” added Beddor. “Dial Books has done a great job of making sure the book is available anywhere you look for it. And it makes a great gift for children of all ages.”
