Diamond Comic Distributors, the world’s largest distributor of English-language comics, today announced it has signed a special distribution agreement with Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd. (MWP) to exclusively distribute their products to the book market – encompassing wholesalers and retailers doing business as traditional booksellers, the library market, warehouse clubs, mass merchandisers/retailers and specialty mass merchandisers/retailers – under the banner of its sister company, Diamond Book Distributors.
Diamond was also awarded the rights to non-exclusive distribution of MWP’s products to the direct market – encompassing hobby and specialty game and comic retailers and wholesalers that generally buy on a non-returnable basis.
Founded by New York Times bestselling author Margaret Weis and based in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, MWP publishes a wealth of original and licensed game and book products, including role playing games, board games, card games, and fiction for both young adults and adults. The company’s celebrated games include Dragonlance (based on Weis’s popular series of novels), Serenity (based on the 2005 science fiction/action film written and directed by Joss Whedon), Supernatural (based on The CW’s hit TV series), and Battlestar Galactica (based on the SyFy Channel’s knife-edged science fiction drama series), among many others.
“Diamond’s proven record of distribution in the hobby and book markets is the ideal match for our products,” said Margaret Weis, President of MWP. “I’m confident Diamond not only truly understands the audience for our books and games, but truly respects the fan base while endeavoring to provide superior service to us as publisher as well as to the end consumer.”
“Our current focus is on media tie-in licenses and we love to create exciting entertainment,” said Cam Banks, Head of Project Development at MWP. “It’s important for us and for the fans of our products that our books and games receive the exposure and sell through they warrant. Diamond’s strength in the market gives us confidence that our products will be available to not only current fans, but will allow us to reach new ones as well.”
"Margaret Weis is renowned among millions of readers of fantasy literature and gamers for creating exceptional fiction and challenging, engaging games,” said Diamond Vice President of Purchasing Bill Schanes. “Through this new relationship, we look forward to working with Margaret Weis Productions to further extend the reach of their highly imaginative and exciting products.”
