It's been a long journey for the creators of Midnight Kiss , the award nominated and critically acclaimed story of a fractured multiverse and the characters that inhabit it, a journey that started almost two years ago at APComics, moved to Markosia Publishing and then stopped abruptly last April when the series was cancelled before the release of issue #5.
But today, that journey ends.
"When we started this, we had plans past the first eighteen issues." Said series creator, Tony Lee. "But due to printer errors, the moving of Midnight Kiss from APC to Markosia and art delays, we just kept finding ourselves missing our slots. In the end, it was decided to finish the first arc on issue #5 – but then it never came out."
With the cancelling of issue #5, fans of the comic across the globe were vocal in their outrage and contacted Markosia to convince them to continue the series.
"There was a lot of anger over the cancellation of #5," said Harry Markos, Managing Partner and Publisher at Markosia, "but we promised that we would end the story, in some way or another."
With series creator Lee posting the script to the final episode on his website and artist Ryan Stegman moving onto other projects such as Markosia's The Lexian Chronicles and Dabel Brothers Magician's Apprentice, the future looked bleak for fans of Midnight Kiss. But behind the scenes, work was progressing.
"Ryan was a star, and drew pages of #5 around his other gigs." Explained Lee. "It took a lot longer than we expected, as he's very much in demand, but at the end of the year, we had a fully finished, final issue. The issue we're releasing to you now."
And so, on the last Wednesday of January, there is another title to add to your pullbox – the finished online comic of Midnight Kiss #5.
"We wanted to add a thank you to the fans who have patiently waited for this." Lee continued. "Later this year we will have the long delayed Collected Edition out, with an introduction by literary legend Michael Moorcock. But it's a damned good introduction, so we've added it to this online comic, with an afterword by yours truly."
For one of the first times in the industry, Markosia have not only offered all readers, free of charge the finished PDF of issue #5 online at, but they have also provided a CBR version here.
"Whether we like it or not, the industry is moving towards a digital medium," explained Publisher Markos, "and programs like CDisplay are more and more common these days in reading online comics. It makes sense to provide a version of the comic that fans of CBR comics can enjoy."
"It's been a long ride, but now it's over." Finished Lee. "Markosia did what they promised me almost a year back – they finished the comic – and they kept their word."
"It's going to be an exciting year for the new Markosia – this is only the start."
ABOUT MIDNIGHT KISS - An Angel found in Manhattan with his heart ripped out. A young boy, the last of a legacy. A devious villain, working from the shadows. An Alligator King. A poker hand of gambler's souls. Michael Moorcock's Jerry Cornelius.
In a shattered multiworld where every dream is another world's reality, Matthew Sable and Nightmare De'Lacy keep the balance. But when a 'rational' - a normal human, unaware of the war within faerie arrives, Matt and Nightmare must protect him before he discovers what he really is - or what they really are, taking him on the run from forces that want him dead, taking him to one of the only safe places - the mythical land of Oz, currently in the throes of civil war between President Gale and the Scarecrow, now with a brain...
But are they really on the run - or this all an elaborate plan to stop the creation of a new Lucifer?
Believe in faeries - If you don't, they'll kill you.
